Today’s episode continues my mini-series on standing out in meetings, and today we’re talking about one of the most important things for your career: authority.
Authority means that when you speak, people quiet down and listen. They see you as being credible, and they actively tune in when you communicate because they trust that your perspective is important.
In today’s episode, I’m walking you through what will help you convey authority when you speak, even if you are someone who identifies as being more on the shy or quiet side. The wonderful news is – no matter what your authentic communication style is – developing authority is totally possible and doable for you.

The more visible you become, the more your reputation builds and the faster you accelerate in your career. Do you pressure yourself to sound super smart when you speak up in meetings?
If you do – I want you to know that this is totally normal, and something we ALL do. We’re messy humans who want people to think positive things about us – so naturally, we sometimes get preoccupied with sounding smart when we speak.
But - the problem with trying to sound smart when you speak is that it ends up causing you to sound LESS smart. In fact, focusing on sounding smart can really get in the way of you becoming a powerful communicator.
In this week’s episode, I’m explaining why this is true, and suggesting a totally different (and far more effective approach) to dazzling your audience. And the good news is – it’s a lot easier than trying to sound smart.

You have so much talent to offer and SO much potential to do big things in your role, and learning to navigate impostor syndrome will help you do that much, much faster. In this week’s episode, I’m sharing my #1 most effective tool for navigating self-doubt and impostor syndrome. No matter how strongly you might believe that you’re the unlucky one whose impostor syndrome is just too big to tackle, I beg to differ….and in today’s episode I want to try to show you that you might not be as stuck as you think you are (and give you some tools to help you prove that to yourself, as well).

I know that when you experience a lot of meeting anxiety & worry, it can be hard to imagine having a powerful voice in those rooms. But I want to assure you that no matter what your starting point is – there is a path to feeling bold and confident when you speak up in meetings. The key is to sequence your growth thoughtfully and strategically, so that you don’t unintentionally set yourself up for self-sabotage. One of the biggest fears I hear about from this community is the fear of fumbling your words during a meeting. And I totally get this –it can be pretty terrifying to speak before you know exactly what’s going to come out of your mouth.
The good news is, fumbling your words is something that will happen less and less as you deepen your ability to speak off-the-cuff and as you learn to adopt a more confident mindset. In this episode, I’m walking you through how to do that, and hopefully, easing the pressure you might feel to sound perfect when you speak.
